FRACTURES

When we find processed wood in the interior, it is usually industrially sawed, planed, cut into shape, sanded and sealed with a plastic coating (varnish). But wood is a living natural material that breathes, absorbs and releases moisture, and moves in the process. Wood has its own “will to form”, which we always try to tame. Fractures is a series of objects made of solid wood. Their shape and surface is worked through the selective use of a wood splitting technique. This technique takes advantage of the anisotropic structure of wood and exposes a surface that we know from firewood or shingles. It creates organic surfaces and endless possibilities for interactions between light and shadow that invite exploration.
