ICE ON FIRE

Performative Installation during minus20degree biennal

Fire and ice represent two antagonistic forces in nature and are both associated with the devastating effects of global warming. Placing a snow cube on top of a woodpile that is lit on fire, the installation is concerned with the destructive power and fragility of these two opposing elements. Wood and ice also represent the changing economic value of two important local resources in Flachau, formerly the site of a large sawmill and currently a hub for winter sports.
